PMZ-LUV1040-G Variable Code Printing Machine – QR codes, barcodes and serial numbers on packaging sheets
Traceability, anti-counterfeiting and unit-level identification are now standard requirements for pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic and consumer goods packaging. To give every carton its own code, printers need a variable data printing step after offset printing. The PMZ-LUV1040-G variable code printing machine is an automatic sheet-fed digital inkjet system that prints codes directly on large-format printed sheets before die cutting and folder gluing.

Machine overview
The PMZ-LUV1040-G is a complete feeding – inkjet printing – curing – delivery line. It consists of a high-speed feeder, a sheet alignment table, a digital inkjet unit with Ricoh G5 piezo DoD (Drop on Demand) print heads, an LED UV curing unit, a reject unit and an automatic delivery. It handles sheets up to 1040 × 1040 mm, 90–500 g/m², at a maximum speed of 120 m/min.
The printed data changes on every sheet and at every position on the sheet: QR codes, 1D/2D barcodes, serial numbers, pharmaceutical supervision codes and promotional codes.
Applications
- Traceability QR codes and anti-counterfeiting codes on folding cartons.
- Supervision and regulatory codes on pharmaceutical packaging.
- Barcodes, serial numbers and sequential numbering on cosmetic, food and consumer goods cartons.
- Promotional and prize codes (water-based invisible ink is optional and is used with IR drying).
- Substrates: paper, coated board, PET, PVC and other sheet materials.
Key technical features
1. High-speed feeder
- Pre-stacking device, horizontally suspended feeder head and single-side adjustment mechanism for simple operation and a larger working area.
- Maintenance-free high-speed feeder head.
- Sheets can be fed in landscape or portrait orientation; minimum sheet size 350 × 350 mm.
- The standard configuration does not include non-stop feeding.
2. 1.8 m sheet alignment table
- Extra-long 1.8 m alignment table gives stable registration for both large and small sheets, with an accuracy of ±0.15 mm.
- Support strips made of special material to avoid scratching the printed surface.
- Centralized lubrication for easy maintenance.
3. Digital printing unit
- One-piece cast frame with vibration damping keeps the print head gap stable at high speed.
- Vacuum table with adjustable suction flow to suit different materials.
- Industrial Ricoh G5 print heads, drop sizes 7 / 14 / 21 pl, maximum firing frequency 30 kHz.
- Supports 1 to 8 print head groups, positioned according to the code layout on the sheet.
- Ink temperature controlled within ±1°C, with a degassing module and 3-stage ink filtration before the print head.
- One-button automatic print head cleaning with several cleaning modes.
4. LED UV curing
- LED UV lamps, 0.9 kW per lamp, cure the UV ink immediately after printing.
- Options: infrared (IR) drying for water-based invisible ink; automatic positioning of the LED UV lamp to the print head to shorten make-ready time.
5. Reject unit and delivery
- Defective sheets are rejected by a high-speed solenoid-controlled unit.
- Single-sheet or shingled delivery, with adjustable sheet count and delivery timing.
- Options: vibrating delivery, side jogging, front lay device.
6. Electrical control
- Touch screen with PLC control and centralized settings; no manual adjustment of each section.
- Industrial PC with UPS and licensed Windows operating system.
- Modular design: control, drive and ink supply systems work independently, with module self-test at start-up and fast module replacement in case of failure.
- Complies with CE safety standards.
Practical benefits for the plant
- Coding on the full sheet: codes are printed before die cutting instead of on each glued carton, reducing process steps and labour.
- Accurate code position: ±0.15 mm registration places the code exactly in the reserved window of the offset-printed design.
- Stable code readability: according to the manufacturer, more than 99% of pharmaceutical supervision codes reach grade A.
- Flexible speed and resolution: the vertical resolution is selected according to the code requirement to balance output and ink consumption.
- Less downtime: modular construction, self-locking quick connectors, and continuous monitoring of ink flow and air pressure.
Suitable customers
- Offset folding carton printers that need to add a variable data printing step.
- Printers of pharmaceutical, dietary supplement and cosmetic packaging.
- Consumer goods packaging printers with traceability, anti-counterfeiting or promotional code requirements.
